Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall
16th September 2020

Embodying the pursuit of balance and duality, Hawaiki TU’s second development of Taurite is a vital and ritualistic performative experience invoking ancestral roots in indigenous physical expressions of Kapa Haka and Māori Dance.
Vibrating with the call for us to have balance in our world, Taurite is anchored in Te Ao Māori practices, values and world views. Enhanced by the acoustics of the Great Auckland Town Hall, Tāmaki Makaurau Kapa Haka Group ‘Te Manu Huia’ express exquisite harmonies as the art forms of Kapa Haka and Māori Dance are blended to transcend worlds.
Taurite translated as ‘The pursuit of Balance’ was described as a hidden gem in this year’s Auckland Fringe festival. Developed with the support of Auckland Live.

TE MANAWA 2017

This season Hawaiki TŪ brings a new version of their renowned show Te Manawa which tells the love story of Koru and Te Mauri, two young lovers from opposing iwi, bound together by a negotiated truce.

KURAWAKA 2014
‘Kurawaka’ is known in Māori mythology as the sacred site where mankind was fashioned from kokowai, the red soil that is prevalent in the region. The creation story involves Tāne - the pro creator of mankind and of all the creatures of the forest - who creates the first woman, Hineahuone. It draws on the parallel concerns of restoring the earth’s environment and strengthening mankind’s spiritual connection to the land.
